Tom Clayson’s graphic design project was inspired by Netflix documentary The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel, which looks at the case of a young Canadian woman who mysteriously disappeared in 2013 whilst staying in Los Angeles. The documentary revealed that this was not the only mysterious and gory case related to the hotel. “I felt there was something really unique about the hotel’s dark history and I was keen to explore further. I wanted to create a dark, gloomy atmosphere for my pieces, reflecting the hotel’s horrid past,” says Clayson. “I focused on drypoints and etchings. These techniques allowed me to create detailed pieces of the hotel.”
