Jemma Young is a photographer working with constructed portraiture, stylised image compositions and digital manipulation. Young creates a mood and atmosphere through colour dominancy, image composition and framing. The aim is to portray authentic and honest imagery that is relatable to a wider audience. The current work is concerned with documenting the self. By building a connection with the lens on a personal level, Young is able to document and compartmentalise thoughts and feelings in correlation to a point in time or specific theme. Most recently, Young explored physical and mental struggles lockdown, using constructed self-portraits and tableaux to reflect on a time of uncertainty.
