Eleanor Elson takes a deep dive into salt – exploring in its physical forms, as well as its chemical properties. The artist experimented with crystallisation, seeing how different materials responded to salt in a controlled environment. This left detailed salt crystals embedded into a variety of objects. Elson also looked into the historical value of salt, asking questions about how we perceive value. This concept was developed by evaluating peers’ perspectives of value; the artist encouraged them to exchange an item for the same value as a piece of rock salt.
