Coutts’ project is about exploring the back garden. The artist produced a zine using Photoshop and InDesign – comprising ink drawings, paintings and notes about the personal connection Coutts has with the garden, as well as a descriptive analysis on the way lichen and moss may grow. The artist kept a sketchbook filled with research from inspiring creatives: Anna Atkins, Stan Brakhage, Marie Neurath and many others. Coutts was interested in exploring the relationship we have had with gardens, and how this has changed over time. Other sketchbook pages contain information about plants.
