McGonigal addresses how the compositional and material components of painting affect the experiential basis of the viewer. In Unmaking Painting I, the architecture becomes the picture plane, the grey wall an active surface to work with and the photograph is a synthesised assimilation of parts, refracted through the camera into a single dimension.
