Inspirational Habitats

The artist and trained architect Tomás Saraceno (b. 1973) creates a breathtaking, site-specific work commissioned by the Baltimore Museum of Art for its East Lobby. Suspended at a great height, the new sculpture comprises clusters of iridescent modules held in place by a net of strings reminiscent of a spider’s web. Similar to bubbles in their appearance, these spherical modules evoke the artist’s visionary plans for ‘cloud cities’, which look to naturally occurring forms for inspiration and might provide environments for future human habitation.
