Viviane Sassen’s (b. 1972) work frees fashion photography from static precision, focusing instead on the performative, almost theatrical element that the photographer is lauded for, creating an exaggerated sense of hyper-real. Umbra, the latest exhibition at Fotografiska, Stockholm, continues this sense of movement and abstracted progression.
As Johan Vikner, Deputy Exhibition Manager at Fotografiska notes: “Bright colours are contrasted with deep shadows, not just as shapes that fire the imagination but as metaphors for the dark sides of life. The shadow represents the human psyche – our innermost fears, desires and need for protection.”
Opens 1 September. For more information: www.fotografiska.eu
