Emily Larkin is a multi-award-winning animator whose deaf awareness film, Who’s not listening? has received plaudits at international film festivals. Larkin’s graduation film, Spinning into Silence, is a 2D hand-drawn animation that aims to raise awareness about Vestibular Disorders – a condition Larkin suffers from. The film shows– both visually and audibly– what life with these disorders is like. “I knew that I wanted the viewer to really experience someone who lives with my perspective on the world… I wanted to keep the visuals simple so you were able to process both the visuals and audio at the same time. To achieve the visual textures it took many layers, with each frame requiring 182 hand-drawn layers each.”
