Athens Digital Arts Festival 2016

Athens Digital Arts Festival (ADAF) hosts its 12th edition in the historic city of Athens from 19-22 May. This year, ADAF will present a selection of artworks and audiovisual performances that capture the different aspects of Pop in the digital era and explore how our increasing engagement with new technologies and the Internet has generated new trends and habits. Working with the theme of Digital Pop, the festival has invited 450 artists from 60 countries to showcase a multitude of innovative pieces.

Featured projects include interactive and audiovisual installations, video art,  web art and creative workshops for both adults and kids. Amongst this year’s highlights are: Boris Chimp 504, an audiovisual real-time performance that emphasises audio synthesis and graphical languages in a futuristic Sci-Fi aesthetics; Quantum Space (QS), an interactive multi-screen video installation that immerses viewers into the space of particles or quantums of light; and Landscape, an installation presenting an artificial world or digital track of land created in computer by code.

Artists’ talks and presentations from fellow international festivals, such as Japan Media Arts Festival, Loop Festival (Spain), Anima (Belgium), and Locomocion (Mexico), will also play a key role in ADAF’s programme, alongside a specially curated screening line-up of filmic works from across the world. This will be comprised of documentary The Story of Technoviking; VIDEOsPAIN featuring contemporary Spanish video artists; and video art project From A to Z in Loop from students attending local universities in Athens and Thessaloniki.

Meanwhile, multiplex gallery space SIX D.O.G.S will stage ADAF’s Digital Image exhibition, which acts as a tribute to contemporary digital image and Internet culture today. Live performances from two artists from raster noton, one of the leading labels of electronic music, will open the festival on 19 May, while immersive piece Recession by the renowned French collective 1024 is set to bring the four-day event to an exhilarating close.
