140 galleries from 20 countries will converge at Paris’ colossal Grand Palais for an art fair focusing on new discoveries, including a plethora of modern and contemporary art forms as well as design, photography and art books.
The fair has a strong international focus, intending to display works from those regions of the world whose artwork rarely reaches the galleries of France; areas such as Casablanca, Bangkok, Zürich, Moscow, Bucharest or Singapore are represented this year, with Singapore and Southeast Asia as guests of honour in 2015.
Twelve Singapore-based galleries including Art Seasons Gallery, Chan Hampe Galleries, Element Art Space, Yeo Workshop, iPreciation or Sundaram Tagore Gallery will display works which show the sheer diversity of talent exploding out of the booming art scenes of Cambodia, Burma, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand.
The general sector is transformed this year, including a number of galleries and artists from Southeast Asia; a range of new Modern Art galleries, as well contemporary collectors such as Plutschow and Andrés Thalmann from Zürich and Flowers from London; and finally a record, thirty solo shows.
The enormous fair is divided into sections: Promises which promotes the discovery of new international talents, and this year includes 12 galleries under five years old; ArtDesign which explores the relationship between design and contemporary art through limited edition pieces created by contemporary talents; and the “Springtime in Paris” VIP programme which highlights the revival of the Parisian art scene.
Exciting new venues will be celebrated – the Appartement, the Louis Vuitton Foundation, the Jérôme Seydoux-Pathé Foundation and the Philharmonie de Paris – in a fair that not only looks to the future of international art, but also embraces the rich artistic history of Paris.
