AAP: Contemporary Curating

Audiences are invited to join a series of insightful industry-led talks taking place at the Aesthetica Art Prize Exhibition, continuing until 10 September at York Art Gallery. In the next talk of the series, Cherie Federico, Director of AAP, sheds light on exhibition practices and curating for the 21st century audience. Drawing upon the pieces in the exhibition, she discusses the symbiotic relationship between the space and the exhibits and how the artworks respond to each other.

Against the backdrop of the works, visitors are invited to analyse the way in which they interact with one another through physical association as well as through similar or opposing themes. From individual narratives to global concerns, the artworks comment on contemporary culture and explore topics such as globalisation, perceptions of space and alienation in the digital age. Federico identifies messages in the artworks and comment on how the exhibition was assembled as well as new modes of interpretation.

Cherie Federico, Curating for the 21st Century Audience, from 12:30 on 27 July.
