Dan Matthews is a London-based creative still life and food photographer. Over the past seven years he has developed a uniquely graphic aesthetic that conjures a sense of the surreal, with closely cropped and dynamic compositions that envelop the viewer in a static environment.
Interested in colour and design, Matthews photographs icons of the everyday in new and playful ways. Coupled with a minimal approach, the subject matter within the frames evokes a mounting sense of tension and evocative emotion.
The Distortion series translates everyday houseplants into spliced vanitas: a play with texture, light and form through various layers of creativity and design. Meanwhile, Abigail’s party is at once nostalgic and present – a sense of apprehension fills each image as anonymous figures are transfixed in preparation.
