Shades of Twilight

Shades of Twilight

Over the years, numerous photographers have focused on the banal beauty of the American suburbs, from the likes of Todd Hido and Angela Strassheim to Gregory Crewdson and Greg Girard, each producing visions of white-picket fences, winding roads and drawn curtains. Thomas Jordan (b. 1992), a self-taught photographer based in Chicago, Illinois, is rejuvenating the genre. These analogue works conjure, as the series title suggests, an immediate impression of summer. Instant Honey provides a glimpse of the Midwest at twilight – warm, rural and isolated. Lilacs blend into burnt oranges and inky blues, the days closing into one another endlessly. Windows glow from the distance whilst pylons tangle with broken branches, basketball hoops and roof tiles. Each composition is brief and evocative, building dramatic land- scapes that teeter, always, between light and shadow. thomasjordanphoto.com.
