Tom Baker offers a playful glimpse at the shifting role of materials. Taking the role of the alchemist, he attempts to purify, transform and perfect the elements.

In this series, Baker and set designer Sarah McNabb work with gold, charcoal, crystal and ice to create intriguing compositions that traverse the earthly and the sublime.

Each image ripples with light and plays with texture – curved gold card and bent metal rods are paired with simple block-colour sets. The results are both simplistic and enthralling.
