Jasmine Mcknight is a multidisciplinary artist from Manchester. Central to McKnight’s work is the use of artificial colours that fluoresce under UV light to create other worldly atmospheres and disorientating experiences. Fascinated by juxtapositions, she often contrasts harsh geometric lines or structures against flowing paint and acidic colours against the natural greenery of plants that are incorporated into the pieces. Thinking about drastic changes in climate, McKnight uses plants and geometric structures to highlight how the natural world and the manmade world are direct opposites, yet are entirely co-dependent. This is demonstrated in Dome, which is realised through a constructed a geodesic dome out of recycled CD cases. It protects a delicate ecosystem of various plants inside, from the seemingly toxic colours of the outer surroundings. Concealed inside the dome is a strip of LED Grow lights that refract up the inside of the structure and provide the plants with the light they depend on.
