Each year, Foam organises a Talent Call, an international search for exceptionally talented photographers under the age of 35, who are awarded a feature in the magazine, as well as an exhibition launched in Amsterdam, before travelling across the globe. Aesthetica Art Prize shortlisted artist Alinka Echeverría has been selected for the latest edition, alongside 19 other contemporary artists.
Echeverría aims to counter the depiction of the African continent and its inhabitants as embodying “otherness”, through a process of collaboration with her subjects which demands the viewer see the individual behind the story. Anthem is from a 2011 series which follows the build-up to independence in The Republic Of South Sudan.
The other selected photographers for Foam Talent include Sushant Chhabria (India), David De Beyter (France), Mark Dorf (USA), Weronika Gęsicka (Poland), Wang Juyan (China), Thomas Kuijpers (The Netherlands), Quentin Lacombe (France), Clément Lambelet (Switzerland), Namsa Leuba (Switzerland/Guinea), Erik Madigan Heck (USA), Alix Marie (France), Martin Errichiello & Filippo Menichetti (Italy), Wang Nan (China), Kai Oh (South Korea), Viacheslav Poliakov (Ukraine), Ben Schonberger (USA), Sadegh Souri (Iran), Harit Srikhao (Thailand) and Vasantha Yogananthan (France). Foam Talent opens 31 August. For more information about Foam Talent: www.foam.org
