Emilia Brassington-Jones

Using first-hand experiences of mental illness, Emilia Brassington-Jones creates mind-maps of emotion through line and illusion. The use of optical illusion allows for a visual representation of her mind to viewers without the use of words or detail. A diary through illusion is a work-in-progress that documents the exact emotion she feels at four points of each day, thus creating a visual journal. It’s a powerful and telling experience to record these thoughts and feelings four times per day, every day. Patterns emerge, which creates a better understanding of internal and external influences. There is ambiguity, but no one knows the emotions the optical illusions correlate to. The work is deeply personal, yet universal in creating a visual representation of a shared human experience.
