Ellie Lennard

Ellie Lennard

Lennard’s final collection Modernist Patchwork explores the idea of modernising traditional patchwork techniques, taking reference from Spanish architecture and Surrealist artworks. For Lennard, the driving force is to produce fabrics with tactility and lustre – finding beauty within everyday surroundings. To do so, the designer experiments with the juxtaposition of shape, colour and texture, starting with collages that are distinctly graphic, which then feed into the development of knitting process. She works with the belief that our surroundings – however industrialised or neoteric – possess qualities that are inherently beautiful, whatever the definition of that may be, and that these qualities can be displayed in modern media with reference to traditional techniques.
