Complex Messages

Welcoming speakers and invited guests from Magnum The Medium is the Message symposium will explore four themes that define life in 2019: trust and authenticity; humanism; imaging, technology, and the digital environment; and authorship and creativity.

At the one-day event specialist minds will pose and attempt to answer questions from the present moment. Dr Yasufumi Nakamori, Curator of International Art at Tate Modern, London, addresses artistic authorship in regard to documentary practice, and Dr. Mark Sealy MBE will recount the historical relationship between photography, human rights and identity.

Jonas Bendiksen , who travelled to the farthest edges of Earth to document our shared ideas toward religious idols, discusses the ever-changing rules of trust and authenticity in art. The keynote speaker is Channel 4 News journalist Job Rabkin who addresses what is arguably the defining scandal of our time. As a lead investigator into the Pandora’s box that was Cambridge Analytica he helped uncover irrefutable truth that our private lives and most personal information has a price.
