A new iconic landmark is revealed ahead of next month’s Chicago Architecture Biennial. Designed and realised by architecture firm JGMA, the latest addition to the city’s contemporary vision is the El Centro facility; a Northeastern Illinois University satellite venue. Positioned on a former industrial site in the Avondale district and close to major transportation links, the project is expected to encourage further development and opportunities in the Latino neighbourhood. The building’s design follows the site’s geometry; its presence is highlighted by twisting roof forms and the bold NEIU school colours. It reflects the university’s position as a role model in the community of higher education with a commitment to excellence, access to opportunity and diversity.
