The history of design is, in many ways, inextricable from the human story. As Jonathan Glancey points out in Design: The Whole Story (Thames & Hudson): “Everything that has ever been made by human hands has been designed.” Tekla Evelina Severin (b. 1981), also known as Teklan, is a renowned Swedish colourist and designer celebrated for striking interiors and a masterful use of colour blocking. Recent projects include a collaboration with Kirkby Design, which is a contemporary textile company committed to sustainability and innovation. Picnic Outdoor showcases recycled outdoor weaves. The palette is quintessentially Teklan: fresh lilacs are paired with zesty yellows, rich greens with blues and deep reds with tangerine orange. In SOLARIS, an exhibition layout for Johanson Design at Stockholm Design Week 2024, visitors were draped under rich burgundy curtains, where different shades of red and pink offset each other to create visual harmonies. teklaevelinaseverin.com
