Annie Brown

“I don’t want to create timid or feeble paintings. Every mark must be bold and confident,” notes Annie Brown, whose large and confrontational paintings match the scale of the body present when painting and viewing. Brown is inspired by the sun going up or down and after long reflection – where she senses something tangible from the warm reflections and lines found in architecture. Colours hold an internal light and have relationships with luminosity; it is these extreme qualities of colour that the artists aims to echo. Brown notes: “I knew that I needed to live somewhere with a different, hotter climate to see how my colour choices would change. Living in Lisbon showed me how my experience of the immediate environment affects me.”
