Anna Tihanyi, Nomination, Julia Margaret Cameron Awards for Women Photographers

Aesthetica Art Prize longlisted artist, Anna Tihanyi, has been selected as one of the recipients of the eighth Julia Margaret Cameron Awards for Women Photographers. Nominated by LA Noble Gallery Director, collector and writer Laura Noble, the artist has been invited to exhibit Berlin bhf. – Couple in Bed at the first Berlin Foto Biennale, (and the fourth Biennial of Fine Art and Documentary Photography.)  Held at the Palazzio Italia, the exhibition will run from 7 to 30 October.

Tihanyi’s series appeared in Future Now, the 2016 Aesthetica Art Prize anthology, as one of 90 longlisted artists. Berlin bhf. was inspired by personal themes within the photographer’s own life that enabled her to empathise with the city of Berlin during a time of transition. As a woman, she sees herself in her own images; able to relate to the issues with defining gender through the various roles that we play.

As a practitioner, Tihanyi creates contemporary tales about the human consciousness. She produces detailed narratives within a single frame,  frequently staging scenes that experiment with the notion of reality. The photographer explores female identity; often transporting the viewer into a feminine, surrealist wonderland that conveys the tension between one’s physical and psychological presence.
