Camilo Echeverri
An Unfamiliar Reality
Colombian born, Camilo Echeverri (b. 1977), is concerned with personal stories and moments in time that cannot be mediated through the camera. A graduate of London College of Communication, Echeverri searches for new angles and unremarkable scenes, and the result produces a sensitive study of the people who inhabit them. Echeverri’s series SuperWomen employs a deliberate reworking of visual vocabulary, subverting notions of nostalgia, happiness and myth, with the intention of evoking the trappings of daily life in a consumer society as a nightmarish apparition.
