Living and working in Vienna, Alex Fruehmann creates images that seem to emerge from the canvas. Blurring the boundaries between photography, illustration and digital painting, each work comes from the interest to create imaginary scenes filled with alternate storylines.

Fruehmann is currently studying psychology and psychoanalysis at INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France – an immersive field that feeds into the concept and subject matter of his artistic practice.

Open passageways, doorways, windows and bridges into open water ruminate around a sense of isolation and possibility – deep shadows fill the edges of the lens, whilst bold blocks of colour immerse the viewer in a sense of the hyperreal.
Fruehmann will be featured by ImageNation in Arles, France, in 2019.
