Following the acclaimed debut monograph Sleeping by the Mississippi, Alec Soth (b. 1969) returns with Niagara – a follow-up series documenting the complexities of modern love.
Published by MACK, the collection focuses on the experiences of newlyweds, capturing motel settings, intimate portraits and images of the iconic Niagara Falls. “I went to Niagara for the same reason as the honeymooners,” Soth notes. “The relentless thunder of the Falls just calls for big passion.”
Reflecting on notions of expectation, reality and disappointment, the series presents a stark portrait of relationships in the 21st century.
