Olga, Former Prisoner of War / Civilian Hostage and Torture Survivor
War leaves multiple wounds on many different levels. Ukrainian documentary photographer, Zoya Shu, describes the losses Ukraine has endured in Integrity. The scars of war become an allegory of a mutilated country. Shu’s project seeks to draw attention to, and analyse, the horrors of war: its ideologies and reasoning, to promote wider discussion about the damage inflicted by humans, onto humans, and how it can be prevented in future. Each series describes a loss – of a part of the body, health, soul or a loved one – and often features prisoners of war, victims of torture, and relatives of missing soldiers, as well as lone civilians.
