Johnston likes to explore the relationship between everyday objects and the figure, which comes to fruition in The Artist. It is a self-portrait, with the inner metal structure of a lampshade placed precariously on my head. A conversation between normality and the absurd is initiated, and invites the viewer to explore this tension.
