Stefan Reiss’ greatest concern is the translation of digital signs into real, haptic spaces. Virtual elements are no longer constricted to the screen; they have a spatial dimension. They can be experienced with the whole body and all senses. O.T. 976 is an arrangement of 39 ropes in a heavy steel frame, stretching across a canal, inspired by String Theory. Reiss asks: how can we define space and interspace; surface and volume; presence and absence of light?
