When the mind becomes calm and finally wanders into the depth of understanding, what does it mean to be a human in the contemporary world? Sigita Silina’s work frequently examines sociocultural conditions, both collectively and individually. She isolates an individual from the crowd and places them in a calm, cinematic landscape, in order for them to face up to their own inner-turmoil and solitude, quieting the distractions from 21st century life. With all her work, she creates spaces that are both illusionary and hyperreal – wherein one can enter the mind and the physical body at the same time – and take part in a ritualistic kind of cleansing.
