A Hoover can evoke a derogatory portrayal of an “old fashioned” stereotypical role of a female: that of an archetypal housewife. For the artist, it represents being a hardworking, non-conformist, independent woman. Through the chaos and heartache of life, the artist’s home has been her safe haven, and the Hoover symbolises that journey. Through the disorder and decay, it stands proud. This series is a powerful, brutally honest reflection of the artist’s life.
