Monroe Isenberg

Sisyphus Wears a Tie (2020).

How can we engage with water, forests, light and time as threads to mend our severed relationship with the Earth, each other, and non-humankind? These are some of the questions posed by Monroe Isenberg, who develops and performs rituals that result in sculpture, performance, mark-making and time-based media, often from the lens of Jewish mysticism. These actions become imaginative tools that magnify, maintain, and otherwise complicate the artist’s engagement with nature, and how we define what is natural. The resulting work shifts audience perception to generate more connected ways of seeing and being, joining modes of perception.
