Oil Painting in Sculpture 11.1
Mark Purllant’s work looks three-dimensional paintings carved out of the air. There is an immediate aesthetic of joy and freedom, however, upon delving deeper into Purllant’s reactionary and intuitive processes, provocative questions rise to the surface. He is considering how we respond and relate to those around us, our environment, and the everyday rigours of life – physically, philosophically and holistically. His work strives for a sense of balance, formed from the juxtaposition of tensions and harmonies, energy and serenity. Contrasts are ever-present, in materials and their crafted manipulation, demonstrating the fragility of equilibrium.
