The Silent Road (2019, detail).
Informed by journeys and imbued with a sense of place, the work of Marietta Patricia Leis is situated in a vortex of light, colour, minimalism and expression. Reductive techniques operate almost subliminally, inviting the viewer to look deeply and observe the subtleties of materials and medium. Leis’ reflections on trees and other visual abstractions found in the natural world – along with a sophisticated use of light and shadow – bring a focused attention to the fleeting and subtle sense of atmosphere and organic ephemera. A closer look can inspire meditative reverie, allowing the viewer to sense the vibratory and resonant nature of our world on an innate level.
