Marianne Broch

Cores and sticks

These pieces have been created from hundreds of years old trees felled by mountain wind, collected on hikes in the wild. Outdoors, the chainsaw gently works its way into massive, but mouldable heartwood, into the human mind. Here, human meets tree, both marked by life’s journey. Marianne Broch’s practice looks beyond the idea of “layers” and “masks”, in search of truth: the stories that lie beyond the surface. Her artistic process is based upon unveiling the vulnerability in strength, whilst finding strength in vulnerability. Broch believes that each core is unique, reflecting the seed: of new life, of the globe, of our consciousness.
