Leah Loftin

Still from North South Eve (2021).

The films of Leah Loftin are vibrant, heightened dreamscapes that question the mythologies of history. Here, physical performance is integrated with archival texts, classical art and ephemera to create fragmented historical stagings that subvert and dismantle our relationship to the iconic. Loftin offers a rhythmic and stylised visual language – drawn from a background in avant-garde theatre, described as “fearless” by The New York Times. Her most recent film series presents a “woman-centric” investigation of unapologetic impulses emerging in our strange new world. Loftin’s work has premiered at the Aesthetica Short Film Festival and Shorts on Tap.
