Humanoid
Humanoid transforms the body of contemporary dancer Cat Ryan into a genderless, faceless, unclothed being. Motion capture technology was used to carefully capture each movement, but a number of odd distortions appeared in the editing process: body parts twitch sporadically, fingerless hands disappear into the chest, toeless feet blend into legs. The result is a strange yet familiar entity: a nexus between what’s real and what’s artificial. Inspired by Japanese aesthetics, futurism and dreams, Jennie Feyen uses poetic imagery and evocative soundscapes to invite the viewer into otherworldly spaces and contemplate the human condition at large.
