Francois Bancon

Blurred Memory Control #2

For 25 years, Francois Bancon’s work has centred around three main themes: humanity, memory and resistance. The Territory Loneliness series was part of 11 Lonely Conversations – a solo show at TNT con- temporary art centre in China, 2021. In the series, 23345 pixels – drawn and coloured the old-fashion by hand – stage the motif of absence. This unrelenting structure mimics the digital age: a time in which our lives, and subsequent memories, run the risk of being controlled by ubiquitous sensors and algorithms. This piece embodies the idea that art, and expression, can be a way to prioritise humanity, taking back traditional media and native ideas.
