Bruce Aitken

Clock 12.41 is a contemporary mechanical piece. Continuing the tradition of the long case clocks they echo, Aitken makes weight-driven, pendulum-regulated clocks: rotating wooden wheels controlled by gravity. The hands mark the rotation of our world in the usual way – 12 hours of day and 12 hours of night.

Clock 12.41, 2014. Full height from top of movement to bottom of lowest extended weight 1.3m, sweep of hands 0.3m diameter, maximum distance from wall 0.2m.
