Maria Anderson is an abstract artist. She often works with found objects that feature reflective and transparent qualities. An essence of nature is incorporated within energetic forms and brushstrokes – the work challenges personal identity within the surrounding environment, and exposes how we engage with these surroundings by juxtaposing the reflective image against opaque expressive forms.
Anderson uses a limited colour palette to isolate focus upon figurative mark-making and she works on a variation of scales to maximise impact. The artist’s current work is a response to the isolation caused by the effects of Covid-19, where the only other person was her reflection in the mirror, and the only sense of the outdoors was a view through a sheet of glass.
