The Other Art Fair (TOAF) hosts its inaugural US edition from 1-4 June at the Brooklyn Expo Center, New York. As one of the world’s major art hubs, the city serves as the perfect backdrop for TOAF’s trans-Atlantic expansion and American debut, which will host over 100 emerging artists and a number of interactive experiences. Unique to TOAF is its ability to offer buyers of all generations direct access to artists, as well as its process in pairing emerging art with experiential programming. Promoting a range of accessible artworks, with an average price of $300 for original works, the fair encourages art enthusiasts to begin their own journey as collectors.
“Our mission is to connect audiences with the art world’s most talented artists at the start of their careers and help buyers discover works that they love,” said Ryan Stanier, General Manager of The Other Art Fair. “The Other Art Fair provides buyers with direct access to artists, interactive onsite elements, educational art talks and live installations that immerse art lovers in the creativity represented at the fair.”
Presented by Saatchi Art, TOAF New York will host the Saatchi Art Talks Programme, led by Saatchi Art’s Chief Curator and Selection Committee member Rebecca Wilson. This engaging event invites artists, collectors and cultural influencers to discuss a range of topics relating to the emerging art scene, including best practices for investing in art. Visitors to the fair will also be able to explore a dedicated installation space featuring Brooklyn-based artists. Meanwhile, tattoo artist Rosa Bluestone Perr will be onsite to create hand-poked tattoos featuring designs exclusive to the fair.
Marina Gluckman, founder and director of 6BASE, a rotating artists’ studio and exhibition programme in the South Bronx, assumes the role of Guest Curator for TOAF New York, heading a special selection of artwork by local practitioners. This year’s dynamic line-up of artists has been chosen by the U.S. selection committee: Rebecca Wilson (Chief Curator at Saatchi Art), Solana Chehtman (Associate Director of Public Engagement at Friends of the High Line), Elizabeth Ferrer (Vice President, Contemporary Art at BRIC), Rachel Miller (Contributing Editor for Brooklyn Magazine), Peter MacGill (President of Pace/MacGill Gallery) and Matthew Nichols (Associate Professor at Christie’s Education in New York).
