Connor Smith’s project explores sound and how it can inspire the creation of different images. The Covid-19 lockdown gave him a new direction; isolation is now a big part of everyone’s lives, and he feels fortunate enough to live next to the woods, which allowed him to escape the lockdown and my own head without breaking social distancing rules. Using this as a getaway, he narrowed his project down to specific sounds in the forest. While walking through the twisting paths and hearing and seeing the strange sights the environment had to offer, he felt inspired. Images and ideas came emerged and it’s this sense of freedom from isolation that he wants viewers to feel after watching the film. The project uses woodland sounds to inspire a narrative and create images, whilst giving people the sensation of escapism into the natural world.
