Sophie McGoldrick

Sophie McGoldrick

Sophie McGoldrick’s graduate collection explores the potentials of materials – predominantly Jesmonite and resin. The properties of these materials are pushed to their limits to discover new and exciting surface qualities. Her collection is influenced by Op Art. Through additional influences of Brutalism and the natural formations found in crystals and minerals, her collection abstracts colours, patterns and textures to create unique, aesthetic outcomes. By combining other components within hard materials – such as rubber-end tips – she creates something that is unusual and inherently tactile. Her collection also focuses on combining soft digital printed fabrics that have been manipulated through the technique of Shibori – a kind of tie-dying process. These techniques enable McGoldrick to produce tessellating wall panels that are contextualised in modern architectural environments.
