Naomi Hopkins

Naomi Hopkins

In this collection, Naomi Hopkins combines a rebellious and aggressive nature with gender neutral fashion. This was driven by knowledge that people are restricted by what they can wear due to traditional stereotypes, individuals not having their voices heard, their personalities accepted, and living in fear due to the possibility of not being accepted. Her concept began from looking at the 1968 unisex movement and how it began to change society’s perception of gender stereotypes. Hopkins, then looked at the 1970a to see if the unisex movement had made any further developments and lasting legacies. She was particularly inspired by Vivienne Westwood, but not due to her genderless clothing, more because of the passion behind her clothes and how she manages to get her voice heard. She chose to use tartan fabric due to the modern representation, showing strength and rebellion. It’s her ambition that this collection has an impact on society demonstrating why there should not be a division between male and female clothing.
