John Cutting lives amongst the former industrial coal fields in rural County Durham. Here, he is guided by an uncomplicated yet serious sense of fun. Whilst exploring the numerous nearby abandoned collieries and disused quarries, he identifies and gathers both disregarded engineered objects and natural materials. He is driven by a passion to create awareness of the neglectful interferences that mankind has imposed on their natural surroundings. The Evolution series uses his signature materials: found and salvaged stone, wood and metal, combining manufactured disturbances and nature.
