Fahmida Khan

Fahmida Khan’s process is driven by the need to keep creativity alive. The designer has always been fascinated by patterns and colours – a form of expression and a non-verbal communication tool. She believes that bold shades and playful shapes can positively influence emotions, attitudes and behaviour, so brings these elements into each of her products. Khan’s background provides a wealth of ideas and inspiration, drawing from the bright lights and celebrations of Eid and Diwali, as well as Holi and Boishaki – both of which are marked by colour and patterns. Khan’s final project responds to the estimated amount of immigrant arrivals in the UK in 2019 (143.9 million, taken from GOV.UK). Her concept is to prevent a feeling of disconnect between identities, pulling from memory, decoration and tradition.
