For Aribah Rizvi, graphic design can be used to inform and educate others about social issues. Rizvi’s final major project considers the negative after-effects of the Syrian Civil War. The conflict in Syria began after the 2011 Arab Spring Protests resulting in a civil war involving the Syrian Arab Republic, foreign and domestic allies and forces. Post war effects such as land control, destruction of infrastructure and the rise in infectious diseases usually go unseen, despite having the biggest repercussions on civilians. The designer notes: “A large majority of people in the UK are unaware of the aftermath of the war, so the main aim of my project is to raise awareness of the devastating effects that this conflict has left behind. I have designed an interactive exhibition taking the audience on a visual exploration based upon my own visit to Damascus.”
