The Aesthetica Art Prize 2015: Exhibition Launch and Call for Entries

The Aesthetica Art Prize exhibition is open to the public. On display at York St Mary’s until 31 May, the Art Prize is a celebration of excellence in contemporary art from across the world. Championing and supporting the work of both established and emerging artists, it is an important opportunity for practitioners to showcase innovative concepts and pioneering designs to a wider audience. The annual award, now in its eight year, is currently accepting submissions in a wide range of disciplines.

This year’s exhibition features work by shortlisted artists Julian Day, Marcus Lyon, Matthew Parker, Owen Waterhouse, Saliha Elhoussaini, and Vera Drebusch, alongside British war artist John Keane (Main Prize winner) and rising star Suzanne Mooney (Student Prize winner). Previous finalists include Ingrid Hu, Julia Vogl, Marcus Jansen, and Bernat Millet, all of which have furthered their involvement in the international art world since their participation in the Aesthetica Art Prize.

In addition to its exceptional finalists, Aesthetica is also proud to support an outstanding array of longlisted artists through a digital showcase at the Art Prize exhibition and representation in the Art Prize anthology, Future Now an inspirational resource which explores 100 captivating contemporary art projects.

The Art Prize is committed to innovation in art and welcomes entries from artists working in all media. Practitioners are able to enter their work into any one of the four categories: Photographic & Digital Art; Painting & Drawing; Three Dimensional Design & Sculpture, and Video, Installation & Performance.

Entries are open until 31 August and prizes include: £5,000 Main Prize courtesy of Hiscox, £1,000 Student Prize courtesy of Hiscox, a group exhibition in partnership with York Museums Trust, publication in the Aesthetica Art Prize Anthology, editorial in Aesthetica Magazine (186,000 readership worldwide), art books courtesy of Prestel, and art supplies vouchers courtesy of Winsor & Newton (£250 for main prize winner; £150 for student prize winner).
