Selected for the Aesthetica Art Prize in the Three-Dimensional Design & Sculpture category, Deborah Barrett is an emerging artist who graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with First Class Honours. Deborah has been selected by 5plus Architects for an exhibition celebrating New Creative Talents during the Manchester International Festival. Her practice focuses on gender and often incorporates heavily loaded objects to communicate a subject’s coping strategies.
Since graduating in 2013, Barrett has continued with her creative practice in her studio as a member of Grumpy Studio Spaces in Manchester. As a studio member, Barrett helped put together the show Experience Needed at Piccadilly Place in November 2013. She is currently looking forward to selecting artists, organising spaces and curating shows for the Free For Arts Festival 2014 in Manchester.
Barrett comments “being an Aesthetica Art Prize 2014 finalist was a major achievement for me and has exposed my work to both a national and international audience. I have recently been invited to participate in a group show Overseasoned in Sheffield in September 2014, with a selection of artists from across the UK including members from S1 Artspace, Sheffield.”
