Graduate of Chelsea School of Art and London University, Day Bowman is a painter whose work lies on the axis of figuration and abstraction. In the past 15 years she has collaborated with filmmakers, composers and musicians to produce installations in sacred spaces, market squares and railway stations throughout the UK. The Urban Wastelands Project, a UK touring exhibition, (2011-12), highlighted issues concerning the wastelands and edgelands that surround our cities and ports.
In 2012, Bowman was commissioned as part of the Cultural Olympiad to produce a series of giant hoardings for Weymouth Railway Station, host town to the Olympic Sailing and Paralympic Sailing Events. In addition, digital images of the Weymouth/Portland Series were employed in the ICCI Dome on Weymouth beach in collaboration with the UK rock group Phoria.
Along with being selected for the Aesthetica Art Prize 2014, Bowman’s work has been on tour in the group exhibition Soft Estate at the Bluecoat Liverpool and Spacex Exeter. Summer 2014 exhibitions include the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and Millfield Open. Dorset County Hospital is currently hosting an exhibition of paintings and collage work from The Urban Wastelands Project that runs until 7 September 2014.
